Twenty-one years ago, a small group of motherless daughters in New York City organized the first Motherless Daughters Day Luncheon in Manhattan and about a dozen other cities nationwide. We believed that mothers who were no longer living also deserved to be honored on Mother’s Day weekend. Since then, women in dozens of cities worldwide have created their own events around Mother’s Day where daughters can share memories and stories. Many of them include the original event’s “Circle of Remembrance,” when everyone joins hands and says their mothers’ names out loud.

Here’s a roundup of luncheons in 2016. These are only the ones I know about; no doubt there are more. If you know of one that’s not listed here, please send me the info and I’ll be happy to add it to the list. And if you’d like to plan a luncheon for next year, contact me at hopeedelman@gmail.com and I’ll send you an info sheet to get started!
