Motherless Mothers:

Finding Our Way
As Moms Without Moms

Join others who “get it” for 8 weeks of online connection and support.

A program by Motherless Daughters in partnership with She Climbs Mountains, led by Christine Meyer.

Registration is closed.

Are you interested in an 8-week virtual Circle for motherless daughters who are childless by circumstance or choice? We’ll offer one if there’s enough interest!

WE KNOW WHAT MOTHERHOOD — WITHOUT GUIDANCE AND SUPPORT FROM YOUR OWN MOTHER — CAN BE LIKE.

HOW DO YOU FIND YOUR WAY?

Motherless daughters are nothing if not resilient. And adaptable. And often wise and capable beyond our years.

Still, when we become mothers ourselves, a jumble of mixed emotions often result: Joy, pain, gratitude, anger, fear. And sometimes, we need space apart from our kids to healthily process these big, vulnerable feelings.

THIS IS THAT KIND OF PLACE.

No matter where you are on your mothering journey — and despite feeding schedules and runny noses and after school activities — we’ll meet you there at a Motherless Mothers Circle.

90 MINUTES PER WEEK.

As a mother, you know how precious that amount of time is. And also how fleeting. So many things could get done if you had an extra 90 minutes, right?

But here is what’s also true:

SOMETIMES YOU NEED TO RECONNECT WITH THE MOTHER YOU HAD TO BECOME THE MOTHER — AND THE WOMAN — YOU HOPE TO BE.

MEET YOUR FACILITATOR

Christine Meyer is the Founder and President of She Climbs Mountains, a non-profit located in the Twin Cities, Minnesota that serves women and girls ages 8-18 (Girls Rise Up) who have experienced mother loss through death at any age. Through workshops, informal gatherings, and formal events for women, a mentor program in partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities, and social gatherings for girls, the organization is committed to encouraging daughters to explore the myriad of emotions and experiences that accompany the loss of a mother. Christine has extensive experience in program development, curriculum writing, and facilitating workshops and gatherings through She Climbs Mountains, Girls Rise Up, and Hope Edelman’s Motherless Daughters community.

Christine was 15 years old when her mother died from ovarian cancer at the age of 44. She is passionate about serving women and girls who have experienced mother loss. She believes that when grievers join together in community, the loneliness and isolation that often accompanies grief begins to soften, and a new path to connection and healing is revealed. Christine lives in Roseville, MN with her 4 children and her sweetest dog, Jordan, a nod to her favorite basketball player, and the City of Chicago where her mother was born and raised.

WHAT TAKES PLACE IN AN ONLINE SUPPORT CIRCLE?

Christine Meyer will tailor the time-tested programming to your group’s specific histories and needs. They base the group materials and exercises on your responses to a registration questionnaire.

The program is robust and full of tips, while also allowing plenty of space to follow the group wherever it needs to go. You’ll get the added bonus of Hope’s 25+ years of expertise, as well, when she joins for one week.

During your first session, Christine will lead the group through a welcome circle, during which each woman can share her story. Subsequent weeks will focus on specific topics of discussion.

The final 30 minutes of every session is “Free Conversation Time,” when members can connect more openly and intimately. It’s reportedly one of the favorite parts of our online programming! During this time, the group can speak freely about any mothering topic on their minds, though the facilitator is still present (just with the camera off and microphone muted) in the event someone needs assistance.

All participants will receive an invitation to a private WhatsApp chat just for your group, so you can introduce yourself in advance and remain in contact long after the group ends. Some of our groups have stayed connected with daily messages and in-person meet-ups for more than a year (and counting)!

HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE IN THE GROUP?

A minimum of 12 and maximum of 16 spots are available to ensure each person has adequate time to share and connect with her fellow participants.

WHO IS THE FACILITATOR?

Christine Friberg of She Climbs Mountains. She has been specially trained and chosen directly by Hope Edelman to lead this group.

DO I HAVE TO TRAVEL?

No! You can join our group from anywhere with internet and a computer, phone, or tablet.

We encourage you to find a private space with comfortable seating to participate each week.

You are also encouraged to connect virtually with your fellow retreat participants during the week to continue discussions in the private WHATS APP chat.

WHAT ELSE WILL I NEED?

A journal, a pen, an open and generous heart, and the willingness to stretch and grow over our six weeks together. (Tissues are also a good idea.)

PRICE?

The cost for the 8 weeks of meeting in your selected section (Mondays or Fridays): $399.

Included in this cost is:

  • 90 minutes of weekly discussion and conversation

  • A private group chat so you can stay connected
